Dartmoor Walks Summer 2009Please note all our guests on the walking breaks are very welcome to one walk with our compliments with the exception of the navigation walks which we are happy to book on your behalf. TUESDAY 1611:00: 2hr Stroll, Easy Going Stroll To Avon Dam (Shipley Bridge) A stroll suitable for all. WEDNESDAY 1710:30: 4hr Walk, Butterdon Hill And Cranbrook Castle (Moretonhampstead) Fields and footpaths (with some stiles), lead you to this Iron Age fort and then on to the steep sided Teign Valley with views across to Castle Drogo. THURSDAY 1814:00: 1.5hr Stroll, Historic Farmstead Visit (Trenchford Reservoir Car Park, Bullaton Cross) Visit Bullaton historic farmstead and learn more about Dartmoor's farming history. You will encounter an interesting array of farmyard buildings including a threshing barn, a linhay and granary as well as examples of early farm machinery. SATURDAY 2010:30: 6hr Walk, Prehistory And Plantation (Fernworthy Reservoir) 14:00: 2hr Walk, Nature In The Bovey Valley (Trendlebere) This nature walk takes in part of the East Dartmoor Woods and Heaths National Nature Reserve, designated by English Nature but partly owned and managed by the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Woodland Trust. SUNDAY 2111:00: 4hr Walk, Tin Mining and Bronze Age Remains (Combestone Tor) 20:00: 1.5hr Walk, Summer Solstice (Merrivale, Four Winds) Join a walk on the longest day to see the solstice sunset and the full moon rise. Please bring a torch. MONDAY 2211:15: 2.5hr Walk, Secrets Of Dartmoor (King's Oven) TUESDAY 2314:00: 3hr Walk, River Valley & Open Moor (Newbridge) WEDNESDAY 2420:00: 3hr Walk, Wildlife At Dusk (Trendlebere) Please bring binoculars and a torch and do not wear brightly coloured clothing. THURSDAY 2511:00: 4hr Walk, Leats, Mines And Railways (Bedford Bridge) FRIDAY 2611:00: 3hr Walk, Hidden Archaeology (Bellever) SATURDAY 2709:30: 6hr Walk, Fur Tor Or Bust (Postbridge) This Challenging walk will be 6hrs + and as the title suggests the goal is to reach Fur Tor and back as a circular route. A good level of fitness is required to complete this walk and appropriate out door clothing and footwear. 11:00: 5hr Walk, The Forest On The Hill (Haytor, Lower Car Park) The story of a Dartmoor novel. Join local guide Phil Page as he explores some of the locations used in the book 'Forest on the Hill' by Eden Philpotts. During lunch (please bring a packed lunch) delve into Phil's extensive archive of information about Eden Philpotts and the Yarner Wood area. 10:30: 2.5hr Walk, Holne Moor Figure Of Eight (part 1) (Venford Reservoir) A walk of two halves, head out towards Horns Cross and Combestone in the morning and then back for lunch. In the afternoon walk around the reservoir and out to Bench Tor and down into the woods along the Pipe line. 14:00: 1.5hr Walk, Holne Moor Figure Of Eight (part 2) (Venford Reservoir) SUNDAY 2810:30: 5hr Walk, Taw Horseshoe Walk (Belstone) MONDAY 2910:30: 2hr Walk, Introduction To Dartmoor (Haytor, Lower Car Park) TUESDAY 3011:00: 2hr Stroll, Easy Going Stroll (Fernworthy Reservoir)
